Illuminate (2017)

Temporary: December 7, 2017 – Spring, 2018

Golden Gate Park: 100 John F Kennedy Drive, Conservatory of Flowers (view map)

San Francisco’s historic Conservatory of Flowers is the canvas for celebrating the seasons’ natural wonders with Photosynthesis: Love for All Seasons, a new series of brilliant art-and-nature imagery on the beloved landmark’s iconic façade from sundown to midnight. Gobo projectors transform the all-white landmark with a series of exquisite scenes inspired by the rare tropical flowers within and the magic of nature’s regenerative force.

Developed in partnership with San Francisco Recreation and Parks, the Conservatory, and the San Francisco Parks Alliance, the installation is conceived by Ben Davis of Illuminate, the group who brought the iconic light sculpture The Bay Lights to the San Francisco Bay Bridge, and Photosynthesis, an elegant public art installation honoring San Francisco’s citywide celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, to the Conservatory. Illuminate engaged Obscura Digital as creative and technical partners to bring this fantastic illumination to life.

Best Viewing: Experience Photosynthesis: Love for All Seasons from sundown to 11:45PM. The best viewing areas are on JFK Drive and in Conservatory Valley. Parking is available along JFK Drive.
